The 2.3-liter 4-cylinder engine is combined with two electric motors that push the wheels and start the motor. The power is less of that on a former Escape but not by very much at all. The 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid has 133 horsepower and 130 pounds per foot of torque.

The continuously variable transmission allows this SUV to run on only electric power and one of the two electric motors store energy from the wheels, giving the batteries more long lasting life.The 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid gets an average of 28 mpg and you pay for it with a base price of $32,000, and that’s without the $1,800 navigation system upgrade.Not the best Hybrid SUV we’ve reviewed but the 2WD version has a $3,000 tax reward as opposed to the 4WD, which only has a $1,800 tax credit. The drive feels a lot like a hybrid should and the dual-motor concept is going to be a standard on all hybrids in the near future.
