Hybrid Vehicle Tax Credit
A Hybrid Vehicle Tax Credit is offered to anyone who purchases a qualifying vehicle by April 1, 2010. The 2009 Ford Fusion offers a $3,400 tax credit as opposed to the Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid, which only gets a $1,300 credit. The Hybrid Vehicle Tax Credit for Toyota and Honda hybrids no longer qualifies for tax credits. Ford Credits will be cut in half starting April 1, 2009 and cut in half again in October 2009.
The Hybrid Vehicle Tax Credit can be claimed on leased hybrids but is only offered to the first owner of the vehicle. The tax credit amount is based on the purchase date of the hybrid vehicle. The BMW X5 clean burning diesel gets an $1,800 tax credit and so does the Mercedes GL 320 Bluetec. Saturn had the lowest tax credit at only $650 for their Saturn Vue Green line.
